On March 28th, Renesas shared Renesas industrial ethernet single chip solutions. The recommended solutions were introduced from the dimensions of servo, PLC coupler, remote IO, and IO-Link. This article will share the products and solutions.

RX72M with multi-protocol support

The RX72M microcontroller product group is a high-performance product with Renesas RX's third-generation CPU core, "RXv3 core," which supports operation at 240 MHz. Its double-precision floating-point processing instructions significantly increase processing power. It includes an EtherCAT slave controller and enables system configurations that require a dedicated controller on a single chip, helping to reduce part count and save space.

RX72M single-chip EtherCAT-based servo solution

Key Features

-This is a single-axis EtherCAT servo driver solution based on the RX72M single chip.
-Uses R5F572MDDDFB (RX72M 144-pin & 2M Flash version)
-Software development environment: IDE e2 studio 2021-01 + compiler CCRX-V3.01
-Currently used motor with absolute encoder (Tamagawa protocol 17 bit data)
-The program uses a 16-bit single-turn resolution: 65536CPR

Target Application

RZ/T2M with multi-protocol support
This multi-protocol product is equipped with a 3-port Ethernet switch that supports TSN and Gigabit communications. Two Arm Cortex-R52 cores (up to 800MHz) enable high-speed, high-precision motor control and industrial network communications on a single chip. The microprocessor also supports functional safety.

Supported protocols: EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET RT/IRT, CC-Link IE Field Basic, Modbus, TSN, OPC UA

RZ/T2 Series 220V AC Servo Solutions
Key Features
Renesas Electronics' AC servo control solution integrates motor control and EtherCAT design to support high-speed and high-precision motor control through synchronized time-sensitive industrial Ethernet communications.

The solution consists of three components: system control, inverter drive control and motor encoder. These different parts are physically isolated while remaining highly interconnected.

The CiA402 communication and drive profiles can be used via the EtherCAT master tool TwinCAT3, and motor control can be easily realized with this solution.

Two-in-one chip design for motor control and network communication optimizes solution cost by eliminating the need for an additional FPGA.

Renesas Electronics provides more than 50% of the solution's BOM components, alleviating delivery issues associated with sourcing from multiple vendors.

Target Applications
AC servo
Industrial networking
Robotic motion control

RZ/T2M 24V DC Servo Solution
Main Features

Adoption of motor position/speed control software enables initial evaluation of industrial motor equipment development using the RZ/T2M.

In addition to on-board and host computer software, we can provide schematics to shorten development time.

The RZ/T2M's delta sigma interface can be integrated with Renesas delta sigma modulators for high-precision current sensing. Reference circuits for sensing current on the motor's U/V/W phase lines are available, as well as sample programs.

The RZ/T2M is equipped with an encoder interface that supports various absolute encoder protocols and is compatible with various encoders by integrating with an RS-485 Transmitter/Receiver.

Equipped with 2ch RJ-45, Ethernet connectivity is planned for the future.

Equipped with the RX72N and monitoring IC, it provides a reference circuit for a functional safety system to realize dual monitoring functions on the RZ/T2M and RX72N.

Target Applications
Motion controllers
Brushless DC servo motors

Industrial Sensor IO-Link Slave for RA2E2
Communication Protocol Solution
Main Features

The solution adopts RA2E2 MCU with ARM Cortex M23 core as the IO-Link slave controller, which supports an operating temperature of up to 125 degrees Celsius, adapting to harsh operating environments; at the same time, the MCU supports the 16-pin CSP small-pin package, which reduces the entire PCB area and is suitable for compact applications.

Newly released IO-Link PHY chip IBIZA.

The program provides evaluation board hardware and software reference documents, including IO-Link protocol stack, sample programs, application notes, etc., which makes it easier and more convenient for developers to develop end-products and bring them to the market, shortening the entire development cycle and time-to-market.
