Special Purpose Analog Switches can connect multiple sensors to the input of an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), digitizing each sensor in turn. The same approach can be applied to communication buses, where each transceiver can share the bus at fixed intervals.

The main features of analog switches and multiplexers are that they both provide a bidirectional path between inputs and outputs and also feature high signal integrity and minimal crosstalk and leakage currents.
Their applications are broad and growing, ranging from industrial and instrumentation to medical, consumer, communications and automotive systems.
